The Zoo

We took the kids to the zoo while we were in Anchorage. Most of the animals were up and active, which was fun for the kids. They also got to pet some sheep and goats at the petting zoo. They had a good time even though we all had to bundle up. The Alaska Zoo has mostly native animals to Alaska (so that they can survive the winters here). The tiger and snow leopard were some of the only exceptions. So, even though we sometimes see these animals in the wild, it's fun to get up close to them. We had a fun time in Anchorage. We stayed in a hotel, which is fun in and of itself for the kids. We went swimming and spent time with Aunt Beth. It was a great weekend. -Angela

P.S. The question was asked in the last post what type of animal did we see. Thanks for all the responses. It is an ermine. Here is a brief summary "It looks like the animal in your recent post is most likely an ermine (Mustela erminea), sometimes called a short-tailed weasel. It is a member of the family Mustelidae. It is smaller than a ferret and much smaller than a marten. They are common on the Peninsula and turn white in the winter, except for the black tip on the tail. They can be really curious, and even seem friendly or playful sometimes (but I would not recommend trying to pick one up). "

That was a fun weekend. Petting zoos are weird though. I hope they gave you some antibacterial.
