High Noon

When I talk to people from America (anyone outside of Alaska or Hawaii) often times I am asked about the light and dark in Alaska. It is approaching winter solstice (between December 20 and December 23) and it will be the shortest day of the year. We will get about 5 1/2 hours of daylight, mind you there is the civic twilight which adds a bit too. The first two pictures were taken around 10:30 am this morning and the last pano was taken at noon. You can see that the sun is far from being straight overhead. At least the sun still comes up here. Did I mention that we will be in Hawaii at the end of the month. I think they get just about 12 hours of daylight summer or winter. Hip Hip Hooray... ~Erik

I always love to see the photos on your blog because you take such great pictures. I was thinking of you this past weekend because we're having an ice storm, and the ice on the trees is very thick and it looks like glass. It's actually really beautiful, I wish I could take some photos to justify it and save it in my memory (because hopefully we do not have another one anytime soon). Can you and the fam fly out to Maine to get somc pix of the ice storm for me? Hahaha.... Tya

Ahh, the beautiful winter wonderland that is Alaska! We got dumped on this weekend with like a foot in front of our house and a couple of feet at the resorts. It's fun.
