Aurora Hunting...

I went out last night looking for the aurora with a buddy from work. We were monitoring this website, and thought the outlook was good. As luck would have it, I don't think we had the decoder ring figured out. The red glow on the left side of the pictures was Soldotna glowing in the distance. There was no moon and the stars were shining quite bright, but no northern lights. I do need to get better at taking star/night shots. You can probably see what my favorite constellation is. Represented large on the Alaska state flag, yep the big dipper. Enjoy the pictures. When I get aurora shots I will most certainly post them. Unfortunately I think it will be cold and wintery when I see them. ~Erik

Wow, that picture with the boat looks fake. I mean that in a good way. I doesn't seem that it could be real. Its just beautiful.

Kevin and I saw the Aurora at my Grandma's house in Eastern Idaho. We were driving home from BYU-I and the sky was all pink and green, it was amazing. My Grandma (who was 79 at the time) had never seen them. She called everyone she knew to go look at them. It was so cool!
