Arghhh Pirate Party

So, last week, our sweet and sassy Kaitlyn turned 7 years old. Most girls would want a princess party or Strawberry Shortcake or something, but not Kaitlyn. She asked for a pirate party. I was super excited - I love parties! She invited her entire class (there are only 18 kids in her class) plus some people from church. When it was all said and done, we had 18 kids at our house. You can see my invitations up above. We stuck some in bottles and hand delivered them and the rest were given as shown (except that Erik added some extra holes to mask our address and phone number for the blog). I had fun making a pirate cake. It didn't turn out exactly as I had imagined, but they never do. You can't see the top really well, but it had a skull and crossbones on the top. We played some pirate games like musical islands (just like musical chairs except with islands on the ground), and of course we had a treasure hunt with bags of pirate gear and goodies for the kids.
Enough of what we planned, the party was total madness! At one point the kids were all downstairs screaming and running and playing battling pirate games. It was so out of control that I told Erik to grab the video camera to document the chaos. I will say that the craziest time was after cake and ice cream and the sugar had totally set in. Kaitlyn had a blast and received way too many presents, which comes along with inviting the whole class. I think the kids had fun - there were about half boys and half girls, so everyone had someone to play with. We only let the kids have parties every other year, so we went all out. It was fun, but I'm glad I'll have a year off next year. We just have Owen left this year (and his is just around the corner). I'm sure we'll post stuff on that too. -Angela
